Upperspace Announces Release of Instant Woodworking Design
Software for Planning and Designing Home Woodworking Projects

PRYOR, Okla. – September. 19, 2002 – – Upperspace Corp. today announced the release of Instant Woodworking Design, a new 2D woodworking program easy enough for anyone motivated enough to pick up a hammer and saw.  

Instant Woodworking Design provides high-performance 2D drawing wizards for easy design of a wide assortment of home projects including birdhouses, step stools, display shelves, a rocking horse and many other customizable do-it-yourself projects. Instant Woodworking Design features 2D drawing wizards, a material list, easy printing and a full selection of CAD tools for personalizing designs. Instant Woodworking Design gives motivated do-it-yourselfer access to plans that work and are easily customized. Results are automatically scaled and dimensioned with an easy to print materials list and step-by-step assembling drawings.

The Woodworking Design wizards feature practically unlimited variations of do-it-yourself projects found within categories including: birdhouses, a gun rack, foot stool, dog house, bookshelves, shelf, wine rack, work bench, picnic table and rocking horse. The birdhouse project offers birdhouses designed to attract specific bird species. Each wizard, including the birdhouse wizard, allows for custom dimensioning of the design. For instance, the birdhouse suggests dimensions for the birdhouse and also allows any of the recommended dimensions including height, width, depth, hole diameter, hole height and the feet above the ground for raised birdhouses to all be changed as desired. Once the dimensions are entered, Instant Woodworking Design automatically designs the project.

This picnic table project has three dimensioning options: child size, adult size and family size. 17 steps for assembly are automatically created.

The woodworking wizard takes the dimensions entered for any given project and automatically designs the entire project (see picnic table at left). A specialized toolbar appears to the left of the drawing window where the user may click to see close up assembly designs of the project step by step. All parts are dimensioned and labeled for easy construction. Arrows will even point to where joints need nailed together. Viewing any step is as simple as clicking on the numbered button for that step (click on button 16 to see step #16). A material list is generated for each project, listing the individual materials needed and their dimensions. Individual steps can be printed or the entire project may be printed: the 2D plans, the material list and the finished 3D view.

The design and drafting tools in Instant Woodworking Design are based off the award-winning program, DesignCAD. Any project can be personalized using the easy-to-use design and drafting tools. Users wanting to take advantage of the CAD (computer-aided design) functions in Instant Woodworking Design can use them to design a project from scratch or modify any automatically designed project that was created using the wizard.

• Instant Woodworking Design’s drawing features include many snap modes which can substantially speed up the drawing process for anyone who chooses to design a project from scratch or to personalize a project.
• Several dimension commands are included to fit any dimensioning need. Dimensions automatically update themselves with any changes to the design. A Quick Edit box is displayed to make it even easier to change dimensions and specifications.
• More than 100 hatch patterns are included.
• Complex computations such as calculating square footage or finding the center of gravity can be performed on any object. Objects can be edited with a variety of commands including trim, scale, fillet, and chamfer.
• Instant Woodworking Design supports input and output of AutoCAD 2000 drawings in both DWG and DXF file formats.
