PRYOR, Okla. – Feb. 05, 2002 – Upperspace Corp. today announced the availability of DesignCAD Express Version 12 Office including: DesignCAD Express Version 12, two multimedia CD-ROM training courses for DesignCAD Express, 2D Symbols, Instant Estimator, ScanPro and a Developer's Tool Kit.
Upperspace Corporation has announced the release of DesignCAD Express Version 12 Office, a complete 2D drafting and design solutions package priced under $300. The powerful features of DesignCAD Express appeal to professionals - V12 supports the input and output of AutoCAD files with compatibility for many other CAD file formats and features direct Internet support and it is a good CAD solution for laptop users. When coupled with training, thousands of 2D symbols, bid & estimation software, raster to vector conversion software and a developer's tool kit the DesignCAD Express Office is a serious solution for any 2D drafting and design work. Best yet, the price/performance ratio is unbeatable. DesignCAD Express Office is priced under $300 and is available direct from Upperspace and select retailers/resellers.
DesignCAD Express' abundant drawing features are powerful and easy to use. DesignCAD Express Version 12 is used in professional engineering, drafting and architectural applications and as a personal CAD system for casual and household drawings. DesignCAD has many snap modes and line angle constraints, which can substantially speed up the drawing process. For example, double lines with automatic trimming can be used for drawing floor plans, additionally doors and windows with automatic trim and labeling can be drawn. The distance and bearing from a legal description can be entered directly to draw the lines describing real estate property. The Center of Gravity command can be used to find the geometric center of any 2D shape. Files can be inserted as OLE objects into other applications. This enables a user to insert a link to a DesignCAD drawing into a Microsoft Word document and edit the drawing later by double-clicking it.
Advanced features include the best variety of file format compatibility, detailed editing tools and complex computations. Professionals who need to be able to import or export AutoCAD formats will find DesignCAD Express quite capable. DesignCAD supports input and output of file formats including DWG, DXF, IGES, XY, WMF and an additional import ability for HPGL. DesignCAD Express V12 is Internet ready via emailing open drawing files and will save a JPG web image directly from the Express window. Objects can be edited with a variety of commands including a variety of trim commands, scale, fillet, chamfer and a 4-point copy. Complex computations such as area, center of gravity, acres and bearings can be performed easily within the program. 120 hatch patterns are included. DesignCAD Express comes with hundreds of 2D symbols. Any drawing can be used as a symbol and incorporated in a symbol toolbox.
Direct scanner support enables users to scan documents and place them into drawings as bitmaps. DesignCAD's Auto Trace command can be used to convert the bitmaps into vectors for direct incorporation into a drawing.
DesignCAD drawings can be output to any Windows printer or plotter as line drawings. DesignCAD's Paper Space Mode enables more than one view of a drawing to be output on a single page, making it easy to print detail insets or 3-view drawings.
The difference between DesignCAD Express Version 12 and DesignCAD Express Office is that the Office suite includes DesignCAD Express Version 12 software and all of its add-ons:
Two multimedia CD-ROM training courses are included: Learning DesignCAD Express Introduction & Advanced. The introductory course teaches someone how to start using CAD and how to think like a CAD program. Lessons range from drawing lines to using more complex editing tools, printing and saving. The advanced course takes things a few steps further by teaching how to draw with precision. Lessons include how to use the point commands, dimension and use more advanced design tools. Priced separately, each CD-ROM tutorial is $49.95.
DesignSYM 2D Symbols add over 9000 symbols to your library! Just insert any of these frequently used symbols directly into your project and instantly become more productive. Symbol categories include: architectural, industrial, isometric, medieval, music, business and travel, geometric, dimensioning and tolerancing symbols, model and safety symbols. 2D Symbols are sold individually for $99.95.
Instant Estimator offers features including an up-to-date product price listing, customizable data fields, import bid data from CAD programs, AutoCAD compatibility, labor and markup options, print detailed or customer copy bids and HTML support. In addition to updating the construction list through Web Update, Instant Estimator allows users to easily customize data fields. Users can add a special item to the construction list for a single bid or can make a global change where an item and its price is added to the main construction list where it can be used again. Instant Estimator is sold individually for $99.95.
Scan Pro makes raster to vector conversion. In the old days, cave people passed all of their best ideas (like fire) from generation to generation by writing on walls. This worked out great until something nasty like a dinosaur, flood or another cave person forced you into a new cave usually at the expense of your hard wrought cave drawings. It's not terribly different in a lot of drafting and design firms today. Lots of great ideas all laid to rest on the rather inflexible medium of paper. ScanPro rescues your office from this predicament by giving you a tool that can automatically convert scanned in data into the most important CAD formats of the day. Using a process called Raster-to-Vector conversion ScanPro transforms your line art scans, drawings and cocktail napkin sketches into workable CAD drawings. Scan Pro is sold individually for $99.95.
The Developer's Toolkit is a resource that aids developers in programming custom applications for DesignCAD programs. The Toolkit provides detailed information on the macro language and OLE automation. Separately, the Developer's Toolkit is downloadable from the Upperspace website at no cost.
DesignCAD Express V12 supports Windows 95, 98, Millennium, 2000, and Xp or Windows NT 4.0. DesignCAD software is available through computer and software dealers worldwide or directly from Upperspace. DesignCAD Express Office is available direct from Upperspace for $265.95.
Customers will also appreciate a price restructuring of DesignCAD software.
