Using the Info Box
The ability to quickly edit a drawing
to meet changing preferences is often as important as creating the
drawing itself.
What if you need to change line
widths, dimension styles, or text fonts for groups, individual objects,
or perhaps the drawing as a whole? DesignCAD provides you with a tool to
accomplish all of this and more through a convenient tool called the
Info Box. In this story we'll take a look at the most common uses of the
Info Box and how it can speed your daily drawing chores.

DesignCAD Productivity Tips Based on Real Questions this Month ... |

Question:
"Can I make PDF files of my DesignCAD drawings?"
Answer: You
can make DesignCAD drawings into PDF files by using Adobe Distiller. This
is a print utility that installs with the full version of Adobe Acrobat.
1.
Install Adobe Acrobat (full version - not just the reader)
2. Open
the design in DesignCAD.
3. Select
the Print command.
4.
Instead of using the printer you normally use, select
the Distiller as the printer.

Click the small thumbnail picture
above to see a larger image of the print dialog box.

Question:
"I just purchased 3D Max and I haven't been
able to find a list of Shortcut Keys in one location. Is there one
somewhere?"
Answer:
Click Help in the menu bar, choose DesignCAD
Help. In the DesignCAD 3D Max Reference Section, there is a link called
DesignCAD 3D MAX Default Shortcut Keys. Click this link to get the list.

Question:
"Why can't I get my text to print on top of a
filled area in my 2D drawing?" Answer:
More than likely, the behavior you are seeing is due to the stacking order
of the entities. Since the hatch pattern was drawn after the text, the
hatch pattern is above the text in the stacking order.
To change this in DesignCAD 3000 and newer, just select the hatch pattern
and then choose the Move to Back command. |
Question:
I know that I can convert an
AutoCAD drawing into a DesignCAD file format, but can I convert an AutoCAD Hatch
Pattern into a DesignCAD hatch pattern in DesignCAD 3000?
.Answer:
DesignCAD 3000 does not have the ability to save hatch patterns that come in
from AutoCAD files, but later versions of DesignCAD do. DesignCAD Express 12,
DesignCAD 3D Max, and the DesignCAD 3D Max Plus programs all have this
ability. An upgrade will solve your problems. |

Question:
"I need to transfer an image to DXF but it is
coming through distorted. How can I be sure the image comes through as
clearly as it appears on the scanned image?"
Answer:
Image files inserted into DesignCAD drawings do not transfer to the DXF
format. You need to trace the image and make it a DesignCAD drawing
before it can be transferred to DXF properly.

Question:
"Can you please give me an idea on how to plot out a large project? I'm
using Ver. 12. I have designed a project that is 5500' by 4500'. This is a
447 home site project. Now I need to plot it out and submit the prints.
Here is what I need to learn how to do. I need 1 master page of the whole
project in a scale of 1/200 with a title block on it. Also I will have to
print out the job in a scale of 1/30, so I can see the detail of the job.
Each 1/30 print will also have to have a title box
around them. I need for the master sheet to show where it has been broken
up so you can find what section you are looking at. I have been told to
section copy each section to its own new sheet and then use Paper Space to
print out the scale and title box. Do I have to guess on how big to
section copy so I can get it to 1/30? Is there a way that DesignCAD can
show where to break the job up like Microsoft's Excel does with its print
review? I have tried and can't seem to get it to scale. I feel like I am
the only person that is having problems printing out large jobs. I just
can't seem to under stand it. I guess I keep getting confused when
changing scale when the section has been copied

Understanding Paper
Space Mode
- Part 1 -
|
The Paper Space Mode command makes it possible to print multiple views
of a drawing in a single print job, complete with a title block if
desired. Options such as perspective, shading, light source, focal
point, view settings, and zoom can be set for each separate view created
in the Paper Space. A few things that many users don't realize about
Paper Space Mode are that multiple layouts and papers sizes can be
defined in a single template, view frames can have individual scales,
and layers can be hidden or made visible in Paper Space Mode on a
frame-by-frame basis.
This first installment of a multi‑part series will cover opening a
drawing in Paper Space Mode. Then you'll learn how to create a Paper
Space template with a single layout. This simple layout will contain one
large view frame and a small title block. |
To use Paper Space Mode, the first order of business is to open or
create the drawing you want to print. For those of you following along
at home, open one of the sample drawings included with DesignCAD (the
one used here is the KB20 Engine.dcd included with DesignCAD 3D MAX
Plus). Double-check that everything looks the way you want it. The
easiest way to use Paper Space is as a final stop before printing.
